We took our 11-day trip in June / July across Java, Bali, and the Komodo Islands of Indonesia. After two long days of flying, we motorbiked among rice terraces, waterfalls, temples, and the spiritual effervescence of the Ubud area of Bali. We then migrated to Labuan Bajo and the Komodo Islands to snorkel, hike, and of course chase Komodo Dragons. Yogyakarta in central Java beckoned us to wander its markets, temples, and caves and we were more than happy to oblige. We eventually navigated our way to Malang in Eastern Java to immerse ourselves in its colorful neighborhoods, epic waterfalls, and surreal volcanos. This was a fantastic introduction to just a few of Indonesia’s over 18,000 islands. It was filled with early pre-sunrise hikes, tasty food, and a diverse expanse of adventures across rice terraces, volcanoes, caves, and temples.
